The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November, with the peak usually from mid-August to mid-October. That doesn't mean storms every week: most days are hot and sunny, and prices are lower.

Which islands are least affected?

The ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao) lie south of the main hurricane belt and are rarely hit. Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada are also on the southern edge.

How to travel smartly in the season

  • Book flexible or refundable rates where you can.
  • Check the US National Hurricane Center forecasts in the days before travel.
  • Consider travel insurance that covers weather disruption.
  • June, July and November are usually quieter than the September peak.
