Strictly speaking the Bahamas lie in the Atlantic, but nobody looking at the water would know: the shallow banks glow an unreal shade of turquoise. The country spans around 700 islands and cays, from busy New Providence (home to Nassau and Paradise Island) to the almost empty Out Islands.
The Exumas are the star for boat days, with sandbars, swimming pigs and the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. Eleuthera and Harbour Island are known for pink-sand beaches.
Top things to do
- Take a boat day through the Exuma Cays
- Walk Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island
- Snorkel Thunderball Grotto
- Explore downtown Nassau and the Queen's Staircase
- Dive the blue holes of Andros
