Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and unlike anywhere else in it: vintage cars, son music spilling from doorways, and colonial cities frozen in time. Old Havana is a UNESCO site, and the tobacco fields and limestone mogotes of the Viñales Valley are another.
Travel here takes more planning than elsewhere in the region. Cash, connectivity and fuel can be limited, and rules for some nationalities, including US citizens, are restrictive, so check your government's latest advice before booking.
Top things to do
- Wander Old Havana and the Malecón
- Cycle or ride horseback through the Viñales Valley
- Stroll the cobbled streets of Trinidad
- Swim at Varadero or Cayo Santa María
- Hear live son music in Santiago de Cuba
