Saona is part of the Cotubanamá National Park off the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Most visitors arrive on catamaran or speedboat tours from Bayahibe or Punta Cana.

Boats often stop at a shallow sandbar, the 'piscina natural', where starfish live in knee-deep water.

Tips

  • Look at, but don't lift, the starfish
  • Choose smaller-group tours for a quieter day
  • Leave from Bayahibe for a shorter ride
